Apple Crumble

Ingredients

BASE (apples)

1 small eating apple or ½ cooking apple

15g caster sugar

1x1.25ml cinnamon

Topping (crumble)

25g wholemeal flour

25g plain flour

25g margarine

25g caster sugar

1 x 1.25ml spoon cinnamon

5ml spoon demerara sugar to sprinkle

METHOD

  1. Set oven – 180° or gas mark 4.

  2. Measure ingredients for topping.

  3. Sieve flour into big bowl.

  4. Rub in the margarine till the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.

  5. Stir in the caster sugar and cinnamon.

  6. Leave crumble mixture aside.

  7. Tidy up.

  8. Wash, quarter and core the apple. Peel the apple if you wish.

  9. Slice the apple quarters thinly. Mix the apple slices with the sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl.

  10. Layer the sliced apple mixture in the bottom of the ovenproof dish.

  11. Spoon the crumble mixture over the fruit and sprinkle with the Demerara sugar.

  12. Bake until fruit is cooked and topping golden brown.

  13. Tidy up.

  14. Take crumble from the oven. Use oven gloves. Check it is properly cooked.

  15. Dust some icing sugar on top and decorate with mint leaves and fresh fruit.

Serve on a clean white plate.
