National 4/5:

The National 4 and 5 courses encourage learners to take more responsibility for their own learning and organising a practice schedule.

There are parts to the assessment for National 5:

  • A Performing exam on 2 instruments (50% of final grade)

  • A Composing assignment (15% of final grade)

  • An Understanding Music (listening) exam (35% of final grade)

The National 4 course award requires completion of 4 units: Composing Skills, Performing Skills, Understanding Music and an Added Value Unit - a performance of 8 minutes on 2 instruments. All units must be passed to achieve the National 4 Course Award.
