COURSE CONTENT AND STRUCTURE

There are two mandatory units and an Added Value Project:

 

Image Making â€“ in this unit learners will develop knowledge and

understanding of camera techniques and controls and will investigate

and analyse the factors which influence photographers and their work.

They will apply their knowledge of light and image formation when

creating photographic images. They will use exposure times,

composition and framing in creative ways for photographic effect,

organise their files and output their photographic images.

 

Contextual Imagery â€“ In this unit learners will explore and experiment

with using a variety of photographic techniques, technologies and

processes. They will use their understanding of the social and cultural

interplay between photographers and society when developing

their own personal, creative approaches to photography. They will

plan, produce and present photographic images in different styles

and genres.

 

Added Value Project - This unit is used for the course assessment and consists of one component a project.

 

Project – The purpose of this project is to assess learners’ ability to integrate and develop creativity and technical skills within a negotiated photographic project. It will give learners an opportunity to demonstrate the following skills knowledge and understanding

  • Applied technical and creative photographic skills

  • Project planning skills

  • Critical thinking and evaluative skills

 

ASSESSMENT â€“ To gain the award of the course, the learner must pass all of the units as well as the Course assessment. The two mandatory units are internally assessed on a pass/fail basis. SQA will provide external quality assurance, including external verification. The Added Value Project is used for the course assessment and is externally assessed by SQA and graded A-D.

 

The Project is split into three sections:

Section 1 – Research and Investigation                     25 marks

Section 2 – Development and Production                  60 marks

Section 3 – Evaluation                                          15 marks

                                                            Total      100 marks

 

RECOMMENDED ENTRY:

Entry to this course is at the discretion of the centre and pupils must have a digital camera of their own or one they have consistent use of.
